Nutritionist’s Choice Prenatal Formula

Nutritionist’s Choice Prenatal Formula focuses on several key nutritional needs of pregnant women often overlooked in other formulas. It provides a full complement of essential vitamins and minerals in well absorbed, well-tolerated forms and includes extra vitamin D (2,000 IU) to meet increased needs for fetal growth, bone development, and other essential functions. Substantial amounts and active forms of folate (as Metafolin®‡ L-5-MTHF), vitamin B12, and B6 are included to support optimum folate metabolism and methylation. Phosphatidylcholine, a bioavailable form of choline, helps meet increased needs for choline during pregnancy to support optimal fetal brain development and maternal liver function.

Additional Supplements to take during Pregnancy: The Fabulous Four for a Fabulously Healthy Pregnancy:

Calcium In addition to taking 3 Prenatals per day, Maureen McDonnell, RN (owner of Nutritionist’s Choice and expert in the field of prenatal nutrition) recommends taking adequate amounts of Calcium during pregnancy (total – 1500-1800mg per day). Calcium is essential for bone growth of the baby and for maintaining a health blood pressure for mom. It occurs naturally in greens, nuts and dairy. Since Nutritionist’s Choice prenatal only contains 100mg of calcium, it is essential to add additional Calcium in the form of Calcium Citrate (which is well tolerated and easily absorbed) Optimal level of Calcium during pregnancy from food and supplements 1500mg.

Omega 3 fatty acids: Omega 3 fats (DHA specifically) are essential to a child’s brain development and when deficient may lead to post-partum depression for mom. Maureen recommends taking 1-2 teaspoons of Nutritionist’s Choice FO Max per day with food.

Probiotics: may be a mother’s best friend during pregnancy and after birth as they can prevent bacterial vaginosis, recurrent ear and bladder infection IBD and food and skin allergies. They also assist in the absorption of nutrients & the elimination of toxins (including heavy metals. They synthesize B vitamins, regulate bowel movements and limit bacteria that produce cancer causing nitrates. A healthy population of beneficial bacteria in mom has been shown to positively impact a newborn’s immune system. Recent studies confirmed that babies born via C section (32% of all births) have higher incidences of allergies, eczema and asthma…. all conditions of a dysregulated immune system stemming in part from imbalanced gut flora.
